Civilian Advisor - SFG Retired
Orrin Baird
With tensions running higher than ever in Afghanistan due to the recent elections, and the Taliban resorting more and more to extreme guerrilla tactics, the current Presidential administration has authorized the US Army to bring in former Operators that served during the Afghanistan and Russian war to act as Civilian advisers.

Orrin Baird, served for eight years as a member of the 5th Special Forces group in the late 70's through the mid 80's. He and his team (ODA 551) unofficially trained and fought along side of the Mujaheddin against the invading Russian forces. He spent the better part of the last five years of his Army career living amongst the tribesmen in the Khost Province and the surrounding area. Orrin, being the Team Sgt of the 551 taught his young sergeants to adapt to the local customs, and to blend in as if they were actually born there. Each member of the 551 became fluent in the Afghan language, as well as their way of life.

The early 80's saw communism spreading rapidly through Latin America, and being a veteran Team Sergeant, Orran was asked to help out the 7th Special Forces group in South America. Orrin felt his place was in Afghanistan, with the people he had come to respect and care for, however the US Army had other plans and pulled Orrin back state side.

Orrin deployed with ODA 762 to South America in early 1984. While in South America, he worked closely with spooks from the CIA, and made several valuable contacts that would eventually help him get out of the Jungles of South America and back to the mountains of Afghanistan, only this time as a Civilian.... well, kind of.

Orrin retired from the CIA in 1999, and moved back home to Black Hills South Dakota. Now, ten years later, he lands at Fire Base Whiskey in the Khost Province of Afghanistan as a Civilian Advisor to the 5th Special Forces group that are hunting down the Taliban, and attempting to put a stop to their insurgency. It's old school meets new school, but the members of 521 welcome the man that they have heard so many stories about. He has returned to once again fight for a land that he has come to love....
